Sassafras is a metallic, coppery watercolor. It's made with huge mica flakes, giving it an ultra-sparkly appearance without any plastic glitter. Sassafras is perfect for eco-conscious artists-- micas (both natural and synthetic) are NOT made of plastic, so they don't contribute to microplastic pollution.
DETAILS
Ingredients: Mica (fluorophlogopite, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, tin dioxide), distilled water, gum arabic, vegetable glycerin, & clove leaf oil.
Lightfastness: All of the pigments in Sassafras have excellent lightfastness. I would not expect any fading, but I always recommend testing for lightfastness if you need to be certain of how a paint will perform.
Sizes:
-Quarter pan (~1 mL, 0.74x0.59x0.2 in.)
-Half pan (~2 mL, 0.74x0.62x0.35 in.)
Notes: Small air bubbles are totally normal in handmade watercolors. I overfill my pans to offset this.
Sassafras is low coverage in one layer. For more opaque coverage, use a thicker consistency of paint/less water, or add multiple layers. If you're adding layers, wait for the previous one to dry before painting a new layer on top. The more you build this color up, the more metallic it will look.
Each pan has the paint's name written on the side. Individual pans don't come with magnets.
Mica paints are notoriously difficult to photograph, but I try to capture each color as accurately as possible. Colors may vary slightly depending on your screen settings.
Sassafras is named for the tree species Sassafras albidum, which is native to southern Maine and other parts of the US.
SAFETY
My mica paints are nontoxic when used as intended, as an artist paint. They have not been formulated or tested for any other use.
Watercolor pans are a choking hazard (and the colors/wrappers can make them look like candy), so keep them out of reach of young children and pets.
