New England Flora is a watercolor palette of 6 handmade paints. These shimmery mica watercolors are inspired by the colors of wildflowers and other plants that are native to Maine and greater New England. They're perfect for painting florals, as a gift in an Easter basket, or for springtime arts and crafts. This collection is available in a quarter pan palette (smaller sized paints, ~1 mL each) and a half pan palette (standard sizes, ~2 mL each).
This 6 pan palette includes:
- Milkweed, a silvery bubblegum pink
- Black-Eyed Susan, a bright, sunny yellow
- Maidenhair Fern, a sparkly, leafy green
- Azure Bluet, a light blue that leans periwinkle
- Blue Flag Iris, a deep blue-ish purple
- New England Aster, a reddish purple
Each pan has a magnet affixed to the bottom and the 6 colors come in a small metal tin. These watercolor sets also come with a blank swatch card that fits inside the lid. The outside of the tin has a label with the collection's name.
DETAILS
Ingredients: Micas, distilled water, gum arabic, vegetable glycerin, and clove leaf oil.
Lightfastness: All the pigments used to color the micas in this collection have excellent lightfastness ratings. I wouldn't expect any fading, but I recommend performing lightfastness tests if you need to be certain how the paints will perform.
Sizes:
-Quarter pan (~1 mL, 0.74x0.59x0.2 in.)
-Half pan (~2 mL, 0.74x0.62x0.35 in.)
Notes: Small air bubbles are totally normal in handmade watercolors. I overfill my pans to offset this.
Mica paints are notoriously difficult to photograph, but I try to capture each color as accurately as possible. Colors may vary slightly depending on your screen settings.
INSTRUCTIONS
To use, put a couple of drops of water on top of dry paints and let the paints soften for 1-2 minutes. They should be ready to go!
Let your paints dry before you close the tin or put them away.
SAFETY
My mica paints are nontoxic when used as intended, as an artist paint. They are not formulated and have not been tested for any other purpose.
Watercolor pans are a choking hazard (and the colors/wrappers can make them look like candy), so keep them out of reach of young children and pets.
