Aurora Lights is a collection of 6 handmade, mica watercolors inspired by the colors of the northern and southern lights. It's available in quarter pans and half pans.
Aurora Lights palettes include:
- Borealis, a bright pink with blue shimmer
- Electron, a bright purple with pink shimmer
- Ionosphere, a sparkly white
- Australis, a lime green with gold shimmer
- Plasma, a racing green with subtle gold pearl
- Magnetic Midnight, a deep, shimmery blue (not actually magnetic, that's just the name)
The 6 colors come in a small metal tin with a blank swatch card. Each pan has a magnet affixed to the bottom and is labeled with its name on the side.
DETAILS
Ingredients: Micas, distilled water, gum arabic, vegetable glycerin, and clove leaf oil.
Lightfastness: All the pigments used to color the micas in this collection have excellent lightfastness ratings, except for one pigment used in Magnetic Midnight-- ferric ferrocyanide, or Prussian Blue. Prussian Blue fades when exposed to light as a watercolor paint, but how much and how fast it fades varies depending on many factors. I highly recommend performing a lightfastness test if you need to be certain how this, or any, paint will perform. All the other pigments have excellent lightfastness.
Sizes:
-Quarter pan (~1 mL, 0.74x0.59x0.2 in.)
-Half pan (~2 mL, 0.74x0.62x0.35 in.)
Notes: Small air bubbles are totally normal in handmade watercolors. I overfill my pans to offset this.
Mica paints are notoriously difficult to photograph, but I try to capture each color as accurately as possible. Colors may vary slightly depending on your screen settings.
INSTRUCTIONS
To use, put a couple of drops of water on top of dry paints and let the paints soften for 1-2 minutes. They should be ready to go!
Let your paints dry before you close the tin or put them away.
SAFETY
My mica paints are nontoxic when used as intended, as an artist paint. They are not formulated and have not been tested for any other purpose.
Watercolor pans are a choking hazard (and the colors/wrappers can make them look like candy), so keep them out of reach of young children and pets.
